LEICESTER

Race 3 – FORMAL 8/15

Bigger targets surely await FORMAL if she can double her tally in the British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Leicester.

Sir Michael Stoute’s youngster is bred in the purple as a daughter of Dubawi out of Cheveley Park’s Group One-winning racemare Veracious, and she made a smart start to her career at Newbury in July.

While runners from this yard tend to improve for experience, Formal was more than ready enough for her racecourse debut, readily accounting for an odds-on favourite who had already shown a decent level of ability in the form of Glistening.

The third and fourth home, Qilin Queen and Veraison, both came out and won on their next starts, so the form looks watertight and given Formal can only progress from that initial experience, she is difficult to oppose in the Midlands under a penalty.

Race 4 – ARCHIVIST 6/1

ARCHIVIST is also of interest for the same connections in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

Another Dubawi product owned and bred by Cheveley Park, the chestnut colt shaped with distinct promise on his debut at Lingfield, beaten just under six lengths into fourth place.

It would be no surprise to see a much improved performance at the second time of asking.

Race 5 – CIARA PEARL 15/4

CIARA PEARL brings consistent form with a 1m2f handicap victory at Sandown preceding a pair of runner-up efforts including a 1.5L defeat tackling 1m4f at Bath last week.

Laura Bay found success for the second time in her career attempting a 1m2f fillies handicap at Sandown in July and shouldn’t be ignored.

Race 7 – GUNDOGAN 15/4

GUNDOGAN brings consistent form with a pair of runner-up efforts preceding a convincing 4L success in a 6f novice event at Carlisle and has a big chance.

Royal Musketeer placed past two outings including a 0.75L second in a similar level 6f handicap at Newmarket and should be respected.
