27/06/2022 – Monday’s Best Bets and Tips

27/06/2022

Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Monday’s race meetings at Pontefract, Southwell, Musselburgh and Windsor on 27/06/2022.

PONTEFRACT – 27/06/2022

RACE 1 No6 SAULIRE STAR
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Miss E Easterby

This combination clicked at Ripon earlier in the month in a triumph that should have boosted the confidence of longstanding maiden SAULIRE STAR. She’d been in very good form without winning beforehand, and can now follow-up at the main expense of Bavardages.

Race 4 No4 GIBSIDE
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Duran Fentiman

GIBSIDE represents a trainer that has won two of the last four runnings of this race, and has to be taken seriously following a career best when third to Captain Kane at Ripon. The Time Test gelding deserves respect for that solid effort, and can have too many guns for the lightly-raced Wagga Wagga.

Race 7 No9 ROUND THE ISLAND (Nap)
Trainer: Simon Whitaker – Jockey: Phil Dennis

What is there not to like about ROUND THE ISLAND operating from 2lb below his last winning mark and with a couple of recent near-misses under his name ? The veteran can make this a seventh career success at Pontefract, and should prove hard to beat.

SOUTHWELL – 27/06/2022

Race 2 No10 THE VOLLAN (Nap)
Trainer: Laura Morgan – Jockey: Adam Wedge

THE VOLLAN has been a model of consistency for his trainer and is arguably a winner without a penalty after almost being brought down at Hexham, where he recovered to get within a lengthy and threequarters of Prince Dundee. He gets into this three miler at the base of the weights, and barring accidents has to go close.

Race 7 No5 JACK OF ALL SHAPES
Trainer: Gilliam Boanas – Jockey: Nathan Moscrop

Fresh from his game Uttoxeter success, JACK OF ALL SHAPES is likely to enjoy stepping up the distance ladder off a 3lb higher mark, and could prove a bet worth waiting for. He was a 25-1 roughie when posting that first career triumph, but can show there was no fluke about it by following-up.

MUSSELBURGH – 27/06/2022

Race 4 No7 SIXCOR (Nap)
Trainer: Stella Barclay – Jockey: Zak Wheatley

SIXCOR is enjoying a purple patch and has improved in a big way to win on two of his last three outings in Scotland. The successes happened at Ayr, but he was beaten in a photo at this track by a rival that went on to endorse the form, and remains at the right end of the handicap to make further progression.

Race 7 No3 DIAMOND HAZE
Trainer: Michael Dods – Jockey: Connor Beasley

The Dods stable has been amongst the winners this week and that helps the confidence level in DIAMOND HAZE in this mile contest round a right-handed bend. The four-year-old went up 2lb for his success at Thirsk which does not look an insurmountable reassessment by any means.

WINDSOR – 27/06/2022

Race 1 No5 BONITA B (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

BONITA B thrives on racing and although a shade disappointing at Goodwood last time, can leave that form behind for an apprentice jockey that knows her well and rode her in a pleasing bit of work last week. She hasn’t fared well in two visits to this riverside course, but can put them in the shade with an earning effort here.

Race 2 No2 SAFARI DREAM (Nap)
Trainer: Rod Millman – Jockey: Rod Coakley

Second on debut at a Grade 1 track, SAFARI DREAM should be ready to go one better for a small stable that has done well with its juveniles this season. The Bungle Inthejungle colt has a sprint dominant pedigree, will be more streetwise, and can make short work of his opponents.

Race 6 No3 DEVOTED POET
Trainer: Roger Varian – Jockey: Ray Dawson

DEVOTED POET has chased home the useful pair Mighty Ulysses and Moon Watch in as many starts this season but now finds himself in calmer waters. The son of Iffraaj came clear of the remainder when beaten in a photo at Nottingham and is strongly fancied to go one better.
