27/05/2022 – Friday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice outlines his best bets and tips for Friday’s British meetings at Brighton, Carlisle, Chepstow, Pontefract and Haydock Park on 27/05/2022.

BRIGHTON – 27/05/2022

Race 4 No6 BEAU GESTE (Nap)
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Jason Watson

BEAU GESTE found full stride too late in the game when fourth to Sly Madam here last week. Eight of his last ten runs on grass have happened at this course, and as a winner and several times placed here he is poised for another big earning effort.

Race 6 No3 POETIC FORCE
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Jason Watson

POETIC FORCE could have this race set up for him should Covert Mission and Darvel engage in a power struggle for the lead. The eight-year-old would then be in a position to make his superior staying power count in the closing stages.

CARLISLE  – 27/05/2022

Race 3 No1 COLOMBE
Trainer: George Boughey – Jockey: Saffie Osborne

COLOMBE has taken a swift hike in the weights and has a 10lb penalty to shoulder, but the filly has impressed in her successes at Windsor and Bath, and with a new rider who is value for her claim taking over on top she can complete the hat-trick.

Race 4 No1 EY UP IT’S MAGGIE (Nap)
Trainer: Tony Coyle – Jockey: Kieran Schofield

EY UP IT’S MAGGIE has been a wonderfully consistent performer and either won or been in the frame in all but three of her 14 outings since this time last year. She displayed good natural speed to lead her foes until the closing stages of a Class2 at York last week and is going to be even harder to catch now dropped into a Class4.

Race 6 No1 CALL MY BLUFF
Trainer: Dominic French Davis – Jockey: David Allan

CALL MY BLUFF possibly just needed his run at Chester, as he did his first outing of the 2021 campaign. If going forward from that good effort to place behind Bellatrixsta he should land the spoils.

CHEPSTOW – 27/05/2022

Race 6 No1 AJERO (Nap)
Trainer: Kim Bailey – Jockey: Richard Kingscote

AJERO has made the graduation from jumps to the Flat by chasing home smart rivals in Nathanael Greene at this course and Francesco Clemente at Sandown. He now finds himself with a more straightforward mission, and is strongly fancied to deliver.

Race 7 No10 SEA ON TIME
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Tom Marquand

Lack of previous experience might not prevent SEA ON TIME putting in a winning introduction. The daughter of Sea The Stars has shown plenty in her preparatory work, and could be too classy for her foes.

PONTEFRACT – 27/05/2022

Race 1 No5 FROG AND TOAD (Nap)
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Danny Tudhope

FROG AND TOAD made up for an unlucky defeat at Wetherby by edging home in a Class5 at Thirsk where he was delivered late. The four-year-old prevailed by being delivered off a strong pace, a situation that could again manifest itself in this race.

HAYDOCK PARK – 27/05/2022

Race 2 No2 OUR JESTER (Nap)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: William Buick

OUR JESTER proved a rattling good bumper horse in the winter, and the eye is drawn to the booking of Buick as the gelding makes a second appearance on the Flat. He made Savvy Knight fight for the spoils in a similar race at Bath, and now needs to consolidate.

Race 5 No1 MANIGORDO
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jovkey: PJ McDonald

MANIGORDO won on a second run back at this time last year and seems to be in the correct spot to serve up a repeat. He upped his game to beat all but Fortamour at Ripon and has taken those exertions in his stride for a trainer whose horses are in rude health.

Race 6 No2 TRUE ACCOLADE
Trainer: Charlie Appleby – Jockey: William Buick

TRUE ACCOLADE might have been beaten when at short odds for his latest start at Lingfield but he and the very useful winner March Moon pulled well clear. It looked a good race, and now tried in a handicap he can bounce back.
