08/09/2021 – Doncaster Day 1 Tips

Neil Morrice has Day 1 of the Doncaster St Leger Festival covered, as well as giving his thoughts for meetings at Carlisle, Uttoxeter and Wolverhampton on 08/09/2021.

Doncaster – 08/09/2021

Race 1: WONDERFUL WORLD (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: David Probert

Brocklesby Stakes second WONDERFUL WORLD has been a tad unlucky on recent starts in a hot York nursery and the Champion Trophy at Ripon. He met interference on the first occasion before staying on too late, and was beaten by the draw at Ripon when his rider showed sympathetic handling when the cause was lost. At a double figure price he has each way claims in the first race of the historic St Leger Festival.

Race 4 – Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3): HIGHFIELD PRINCESS
Trainer: John Quinn – Jockey: Jason Hart

HIGHFIELD PRINCESS has with earning runs in a Group 3 at Goodwood and Group 2 at York got herself established as a filly that’s in her comfort zone at Pattern level. She raised her game to put in a career best when chasing home Space Blues on the Knavesmire and has to be afforded abundant respect against the likes of Just Beautiful and the unexposed Wren’s Breath.

Race 5: TWILIGHT CALLS (Nap)
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: David Probert

TWILIGHT CALLS regularly attracts market support and as was the case in a valuable handicap at York last month, travels into contention with considerable ease. The Twilight Son colt now gets the addition of cheek pieces to help him concentrate at the business end, and can step up to the plate on this first outing in Listed company.

Race 7: BOMB PROOF (Each Way
Trainer: James Fanshawe – Jockey: William Buick

After two straight wins at the start of his career BOMB PROOF spent some time in the wilderness before coming back from a breathing operation to chase home Tyger Bay at Kempton. He should be all the better for that run on Polytrack, a race that came after a three-month break, while his trainer does well with this type of late-maturing sprinter.

CARLISLE – 08/09/2021

Race 1: WHITEANDBLUE
Trainer: Bryan Smart – Jockey: Harrison Shaw

I can pass on a positive message for newcomer Dubai Jungle for whom a market check is advised, but a more reliable wager could be one WHITEANDBLUE, one of the most experienced juveniles in the race. Having earned on her last two of three starts the daughter of Fountain Of Youth might know too much for her foes.

Race 7: RED GENESIS (Nap)
Trainer: James Ferguson – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

RED GENESIS ran into one when second to Undertheboardwalk at Salisbury, a run that earned the gelding a handicap mark. It’s interesting that connections have elected to keep him in maiden company, and he can prove too strong for Hello Zabeel in what looks a straight match

UTTOXETER – 08/09/2021

Race 3: SWEEPING ROCK (Each Way)
Trainer: John Spearing – Jockey: Fergus Gregory

SWEEPING ROCK looks to have got himself onto a workable mark and really takes the eye at the base of this handicap hurdle. The veteran has proved a fine servant to his trainer, and was in the process of running a fine race when brought down at Stratford back in July. Granted luck in running in this big field, consolation May await.

Race 4: GUERNESEY (Nap)
Trainer: Philip Hobbs – Jockey: Tom O’Brien

As a horse that’s always promised to find his forte when switched to fences, GUERNESEY is of considerable interest on chase debut for a stable laid low with a virus for much of last season. He’s schooled well at home, and is fit for this first outing in six months.

WOLVERHAMPTON – 08/09/2021

Race 3: SERENITY
Trainer: William Haggas – Jockey: Cieren Fallon

Several catch the eye in this fillies’ maiden but nothing can match the proven form of SERENITY, placed on both career outings at Newmarket and Nottingham and surely capable of recouping the losses sustained when she was turned over as an odds-on chance last time.

Race 5: NADEIN (Nap)
Trainer: Roger Charlton – Jockey: Trevor Whelan

NADEIN went past trees when opening her account by a wide margin in a Catterick novice last time. Importantly, that’s given her a needed confidence boost ahead of this switch to handicaps. She ran Melrose winner Valley Forge to a neck on her previous outing, which at face value makes her a real betting proposition.
