07/09/2021 – Tuesday’s Racing Tips

Neil Morrice provides his tips for British race meetings at Goodwood, Catterick, Leicester and Windsor on 07/09/2021.

GOODWOOD – 07/09/2021

Race 1: CHAIRMAN POWER
Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute – Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa

CHAIRMAN POWER has had a few chances but comes back from more than three months off following wind surgery. He’s been going well at home, an indication that the operation has worked.

Race 2: PIFFLE (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Walker – Jockey: Oisin Murphy

As one of only two winners in this fillies’ novice stakes, PIFFLE is burdened with a penalty, but there was much to like about the battling qualities she displayed to get home in a photo at Windsor back in July. Her experience should stand her in good stead against several unraced rivals of whom Caryatid takes the eye on pedigree.

CATTERICK BRIDGE – 07/09/2021

Race 8: STEEL AN ICON (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: Miss Serena Brotherton

STEEL AN ICON can be a wager worth waiting for at the end of this tricky betting card. The Sixties Icon filly put in an underwhelming performance when out of the money at Thirsk, but with a top amateur now in the irons can dominate her foes from the front. As she’s shown on several occasions, if getting on a loose lead she can be very hard to claw back.

LEICESTER – 07/09/2021

Race 1: LARK LANE (Each Way)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

LARK LANE hasn’t set the world alight since contested handicaps, and could never get in a blow at Brighton last time. However, he’s likely to do better dropped into a seller and back to seven furlongs, and should not be underestimated.

Race 7: TOYBOX (Each Way)
Trainer: Jonny Portman – Jockey: Tyler Saunders

TOYBOX has improved from race to race in three outings this year. The Paco Boy mare has more going for her than most, and with an apprentice that knows her in the plate looks a cast-iron each-way proposition.

WINDSOR – 07/09/2021

Race 1: SIYATA
Trainer: Roger Charlton – Jockey: David Probert

SIYATA was backed as if defeat was out of the question on second handicap start at Newbury, but flattened out in the closing stages to finish fourth to Spanish Star. Now back operating at a sprint distance, she can make short work of her rivals en route to a bountiful autumn campaign.

Race 2: LOCKE (Nap)
Trainer: Brian Meehan – Jockey: Martin Dwyer

Muhaarar colt LOCKE returned from a break to put in a career-best when chasing home Heredia at Windsor. It’s interesting that his connections have elected to keep him in novice company, and he gets the vote over Olympic Eagle and Bell Shot, both of whom have shown promise.

Race 4: TARTAN CHIEF
Trainer: Paul Cole – Jockey: Cieren Fallon

TARTAN CHIEF is closely matched with Night Arc based on their Salisbury clash last month in which the former prevailed by a neck. Tartan Chief is getting better by the race, and with the confidence boost that initial success provided, can follow up on these revised terms.
