Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Monday’s race meetings at Wolverhampton, Kempton Park, Ripon and Windsor on 08/08/2022.
WOLVERHAMPTON – 08/08/2022
Race 1 No2 BANNED (Each Way)
Trainer: Hughie Morrison – Jockey: William Buick
This looks the best meeting for betting and Ulysses filly BANNED can give us a good start by taking out the opening maiden handicap. She was no match for Tamilla at Ffos Las but that was on soft ground, and she’s worked well on an all-weather surface ahead of this debut on sand.
Race 2 No7 STEELRIVER
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: PJ McDonald
STEELRIVER is a standing dish here, and though just a few months away from becoming a teenager can still cut a dash at a track where he’s posted seven of his 11 career successes. In this race he looks likely to get the fast pace he requires to pick off his foes in the straight.
Race 3 No8 STARNBERG (Nap)
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Sam Hitchcott
Clodovil colt STARNBERG is better drawn than his market rivals with similar form, and that edge makes him the value play to open his account for a stable that’s been on the money with its juvenile runners through the heat wave.
Race 5 No2 PEARL BAY
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Kieran Shoemark
Although she’s running for the first time in over 300 days, PEARL BAY is ready to take home a cheque in this fillies’ handicap. The daughter of Cable Bay came to hand quickly and posted her only success on a second start in 2021. In the co,ours of her trainer, she can give her rivals plenty to think about.
KEMPTON PARK – 08/08/2022
Race 4 No1 MUNCH (Nap)
Trainer: David Menuisier – Jockey: David Probert
New Bay filly MUNCH underwhelmed on her Windsor debut before making no mistake at this track. She’s learned from that experience and is in the mood to handle a rise in the weights at the main expense of Enola Gay.
Race 6 No3 GREEK FLAME
Trainer: James Fanshawe – Jockey: Rob Hornby
GREEK FLAME has found Precision Storm an irritating foe, going down to that filly by a neck at Wolverhampton and a short head at Chester. The daughter of Siyouni richly deserves to get her head in front, and can achieve it on this first run on Polytrack.
RIPON – 08/08/2022
Race 2 No6 ACT OF WILL (Nap)
Trainer: Danny Brooke – Jockey: Jack Garritty
ACT OF WILL was an 80-1 no-hoper when beaten in a tight finish on her debut at Carlisle. She’s been given time to get over those exertions, and now dropped to five furlongs can open her account for her sporting connections.
Race 5 No5 GIBSIDE
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
Course winner GIBSIDE failed to build on his success when a beaten favourite in Molinari’s race at York. However this model of consistency should appreciate a return to this more suitable track, and in receipt of weight from his rivals can prove hard to beat.
WINDSOR – 08/08/2022
Race 2 No6 POLLINATE
Trainer: Henry Candy – Jockey: Callum Hutchinson
POLLINATE went up just 2lb for her gritty success at Bath. She didn’t appear to be stopping at the finish, and should enjoy this slightly longer journey for a stable with a good strike rate from its relatively few runners.
Race 5 No3 MY GENGHIS
Trainer: Tony Carroll – Jockey: Ray Dawson
MY GENGHIS has been a slow burner and was having just a third career start when troubling the judge as a 150-1 roughie at Leicester. He looked to relish a switch onto grass, and while it’s a surprise he didn’t go for a handicap he can still have a big say in the outcome of this novice
