01/08/2022 – Monday’s Best Bets and Tips

Neil Morrice provides us with his best bets and tips for Monday’s race meetings at Ayr, Ripon, Carlisle and Windsor on 01/08/2022.

AYR – 01/08/2022

Race 1 No3 DUBAI JEMILA (Nap)
Trainer: Kevin Ryan – Jockey: Tom Eaves

Espionne is likely to be all the rage in the opener but the Carlisle winner could find DUBAO JEMILA too hot to handle. The selection, who is also by Dubawi, failed to live up to her billing when underwhelming on debut at Beverley, but she’s learned bundles from the outing and will be a lot more streetwise.

Race 4 No2 WHAT’S THE STORY
Trainer: Keith Dalgleish – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez

This has cut up to present WHAT’S THE STORY with a fine chance to open his account for the season. Although without a win for almost three years, the selection ran a stormer to beat all but Spirit Dancer in a York Class2 last time, and a repeat of that would be good enough.

RIPON  – 01/08/2022

Race 2 No1 BONITA B
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

The jury is out on whether BONITA B is as effective over this five furlongs as six, but if the rolling track suits her she can be played effectively at the business end by an apprentice that’s ridden her on four of her last five outings.

Race 4 No3 CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Channon – Jockey: George Bass

CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD hasn’t enjoyed the rub of the green since his excellent run in a big handicap on Guineas day at Newmarket. He was distracted at the start and could never get in a blow in the Wokingham, and then looked to have an off day at Pontefract behind Lampang. What’s interesting is that Bass, who rides him a lot at home, is now on board for the first time in an actual race, and takes what could be a crucial 5lb off his back.

Race 7 No5 BIT OF A QUIRKE
Trainer: Tim Walford – Jockey: Tyler Heard

BIT OF A QUIRKE has been busy of late, scoring at Leicester and finishing third at Beverley within the space of a week. If those outings haven’t left their mark he can make amends for a narrow defeat over this course and distance back in May.

CARLISLE – 01/08/2022

Race 5 No11 EXCESSABLE ( Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Miss Emily Easterby

EXCESSABLE gave it his best shot when in the money at Redcar last week. He’s taken that race in his stride to qualify him for a swift reappearance and should prove a good conveyance for his amateur pilot who has never ridden him before.

Race 7 No5 POET’S DAWN (Nap)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: Miss Emily Easterby

POET’S DAWN can be regarded as a winner without a penalty as he was sent on much to early at Pontefract last week and reeled in in the final few strides. There’s been plenty of money for him on each of his last three starts, and he can end a wait of more than a year for a win with a new rider in the irons.

WINDSOR – 01/08/2022

Race 4 No5 LOOE BEACH
Trainer: Richard Hannon – Jockey: Dane O’Neill

LOOE BEACH has acquitted himself well in back-to-back races on Grade 1 tracks which puts the Footstepsinthesand colt firmly in the mix for this Class5 handicap. He is likely to run to that level of form and can get the better of last time out scorers Elena’s Gift and Fearless Bay.

Race 5 No1 ORIOLE (Nap)
Trainer: Ralph Beckett – Jockey: Rob Hornby

Nathaniel filly ORIOLE knew too much for the promising Sea Speedwell when opening her account at Leicester, and even though burdened with a penalty has a solid chance of adding to her laurels against Shampion and Spanish.

Race 6 No5 PRIDE OF NEPAL (Each W)ay
Trainer: Jeremy Scott – Jockey: Andrea Atzeni

Dual purpose horse PRIDE OF NEPAL has been firmly in the zone since returning to the Flat in the Spring, scoring at Goodwood and Salisbury and placing on his latest two starts. He has professional handling for the first time this season, and should take home yet another cheque.
