Ryder Cup captains Luke Donald and Keegan Bradley have revealed their superstars to kick off the 45th Ryder Cup on Friday morning at Bethpage.
Match 1
Bryson DeChambeau & Justin Thomas (USA) v Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton (EUR)
DeChambeau and Thomas team up for the first time, two emotional centres of energy that will look to improve their collective Foursomes record of 2-5-0. Thomas brings the most experience to the US Team with 13 total matches played.
The first of Team Europe’s Foursomes pairing is no surprise, following a 2-0-0 record in Foursomes together at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome. It will be a third outing for the explosive Rahm-Hatton duo, who also earned a half point at Whistling Straits in Four-Balls against DeChambeau and Scheffler.
Match 2
Scottie Scheffler & Russell Henley (USA) v Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick (EUR)
World number one Scheffler pairs up with Ryder Cup rookie Henley for the first time, with Scheffler looking for his first Foursomes victory in two Ryder Cup appearances. They team up against another new pairing in Aberg and Fitzpatrick, the first new pairing for Team Europe.
Both Fitzpatrick and Scheffler, who are meeting for the first time in a Ryder Cup, are each searching for their first Foursomes points for their respective teams.
Match 3
Collin Morikawa and Harrish English (USA) v Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood (EUR)
For the United States pairing of Morikawa and English, this will be the first time they’ve played together in a Ryder Cup.
Morikawa is playing in his third consecutive Ryder Cup and holds a 2-1-0 record in Foursomes. English, who played four years ago at Whistling Straits and notched 1 point, has not played a Foursomes match and will make his debut with Morikawa.
Following their 2-0-0 Foursomes record in Rome, McIlroy and Fleetwood team up again as one of Europe’s two repeat Foursomes pairings for the opening session at Bethpage Black. While Fleetwood – who has a 4-0-0 career foursomes record – will face both players for the first time, McIlroy has played both Morikawa and English in previous Ryder Cups, each time in Four-Ball sessions.
Match 4
Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay (USA) v Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland (EUR)
Schauffele and Cantlay return to pair up together in the anchor match for the United States. The duo has played four matches together: two at Whistling Straits in 2021 and two at Marco Simone, going 2-2-0 as partners.
On the European side, MacIntyre was the most successful rookie in Rome and will tee up in Foursomes for the first time in his Ryder Cup career. He finds himself in a new partnership with Hovland, who was one half of the record-breaking Scandinavian foursomes record in Marco Simone with Aberg.
