Addressing the media a week ago, the Architect heading the project Lord Foster said the new stadium will feature an umbrella design and will harvest solar energy and rainwater. It will also include three masts that will make it visible from 40km away and the project will take five years to complete.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy did not put a time frame on when the stadium will start being built but spoke about how they have had back-to-back meetings with the club owners and can’t wait to work together in making this big project come alive.

“The exciting thing about this project is not just what it will do for Manchester United but what it will potentially do for the whole area and the communities that live there we’re excited about the project and we’re talking to them about how we can best work together,” said Nandy. The project will generate around 90,000 jobs and will boost the economy.

Although the UK government is ready to jump in and assist in funds Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has come out saying that “no public money would be used to build the 100,000-seater venue”.

This means the Red Devils will take full responsibility for building this stadium. The problem is that United needs help in funding this project because they have a debt of more than 1 billion pounds and more than 200 staff members were dismissed. Job losses began last season with around 250 employees losing their jobs.

It is also rumored that the new stadium will have naming rights, but the new potential name of the stadium is not confirmed yet. Right now, on the factsheet, the stadium is called the “New Trafford Stadium”.
