The Magpies have tabled an enhanced bid for the 22-year-old Slovenian, aiming to outpace rivals Manchester United, while their progress could unlock a blockbuster move for Liverpool to secure Newcastle’s own talisman, Alexander Isak.

Newcastle’s latest offer for Sesko, confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X, stands at a hefty 90 million euros, comprising 80 million euros upfront and 10 million euros in add-ons. This follows an initial bid of 75 million euros plus 5 million euros in bonuses, which Leipzig rejected due to insufficient add-ons and a missing sell-on clause.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Newcastle have held “positive talks” with both Leipzig and Sesko, giving them an edge in negotiations. “Newcastle United make improved bid to RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko. New offer worth at least €80m after positive talks between clubs & with 22yo striker,” Ornstein posted on X.

Manchester United, despite identifying Sesko as their top striker target, have yet to submit a formal bid. Ornstein noted that United’s proposed figures fall short of Newcastle’s, stating, “The figures they have indicated a willingness to pay are lower than those of Newcastle at present.”

Romano added, “Manchester United confirmed again to RB Leipzig that they will bid if Sesko picks them,” but the player remains undecided. Leipzig’s firm stance on their valuation, around 75 million euros plus add-ons and a sell-on clause, means Newcastle’s proactive approach could prove decisive.

The ripple effects of Newcastle’s pursuit are significant for Liverpool, who are poised to reignite their chase for Alexander Isak. The Reds saw a 110 million pounds bid for the Swedish striker rejected, with Newcastle valuing him at 150 million pounds.

Transfer insider Fraser Fletcher has indicated Liverpool are ready to meet that valuation if Newcastle secure a replacement like Sesko. “Liverpool have zero intention of backing away and are simply waiting for Newcastle to open the doors to Isak’s sale before bidding again,” Fletcher reported.

Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe has acknowledged the complexity of the situation, particularly regarding Isak, who has expressed a desire to leave. “The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex,” Howe said, addressing the speculation.

The Magpies are determined to bolster their squad, with Howe emphasizing their focus on quality: “We’re looking for the best players that we can get. It’s quality over quantity.”

Sesko’s potential arrival could transform Newcastle’s attack, especially if Isak departs. The Slovenian’s 13 Bundesliga goals last season showcased his potential, though Leipzig remain open to keeping him for another year if their demands aren’t met.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s patience could pay off, with a Sesko deal potentially clearing the path for Isak to join the Premier League champions, where he could form a formidable partnership with recent signings like Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

As the transfer window nears its climax, Newcastle’s bold move for Sesko has set the stage for a dramatic finale, with Manchester United and Liverpool watching closely. The outcome of this high-stakes race could define the season for all three clubs.
