An initial offer of 55 million pounds, followed by a second bid of 62.5 million, matching the fee paid to Wolves for Matheus Cunha earlier this summer, were both turned down by the Bees.

However, Brentford are expected to accept an offer in the region of £65 million, with talks ongoing over the structure and payment terms of the deal.

New manager Ruben Amorim has identified striker as the club’s top recruitment priority, particularly after missing out on Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea, and with former Sporting frontman Viktor Gyokeres now closing in on a move to Arsenal.

Amorim is pushing to secure Mbeumo’s signature before United depart for their pre-season tour of the United States, which kicks off on 22 July. The tour will include matches against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

So far, United’s summer business has included the signings of Matheus Cunha and promising young defender Diego Leon. Mbeumo is the next target on the list, with the club hopeful a deal can be finalised within the next week.

As insurance, United have explored alternative striker options. Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt remains on the radar, while former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin – now a free agent – has been offered to the club.
