The Reds, already active in the transfer market with six new signings this summer, are ready to push the boundaries again by targeting one of the Premier League’s most lethal strikers.

Newcastle, however, remain steadfast in their stance that Isak is not for sale. The 25-year-old, who netted an impressive 27 goals across all competitions last season, including a crucial strike in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool, is under contract until 2028. Despite this, Liverpool are undeterred and have made direct contact with the Magpies, expressing their willingness to table a staggering 120 million pounds offer, a figure that could eclipse the British transfer record they broke earlier this summer with the signing of Florian Wirtz for 116 million pounds.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided insight into the situation, stating, “Liverpool approached Newcastle, and there is club-to-club contact. They are ready to offer 120 million pounds for Alexander Isak. The player didn’t close the door to Liverpool; he seems open to the move, but Newcastle are hoping to advance talks for a new contract.”

This openness from Isak has fueled Liverpool’s optimism, though Newcastle’s resolve remains a significant hurdle. The Magpies, buoyed by their qualification for the Champions League after a fourth-placed finish last season, are keen to keep their talisman and pair him with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, another striker Liverpool have reportedly enquired about.

Craig Hope of The Daily Mail highlighted the complexities surrounding Isak’s future, noting, “His motivations could determine what happens next amid Liverpool interest. He was disappointed that a promise of a new contract from previous co-owners was not honoured. Newcastle are likely to offer improved terms, but it’s unclear if he wants to sign.”

Liverpool’s pursuit is not without complications. Sources suggest they could sweeten their offer by including players like Darwin Nunez or Harvey Elliott in a potential deal to sway Newcastle.

Additionally, the Reds are prepared to offer Isak a lucrative six-year contract, significantly boosting his current 120,000 pounds-a-week wages to place him among their top earners.

Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe has remained tight-lipped on the matter, but the club’s actions speak volumes. Their ongoing negotiations for Ekitike indicate a desire to bolster their attack while keeping Isak as the centerpiece.

However, Liverpool’s persistence and Isak’s openness to a move could yet shift the dynamic, making this one of the most intriguing sagas of the 2025 transfer window.

For now, Newcastle hold a strong position with Isak’s long-term contract, but Liverpool’s ambition and financial muscle ensure this story is far from over. Football fans will be watching closely to see if the Reds can pull off what would be a statement signing for the Premier League champions.
