The Spanish giants, led by manager Xabi Alonso, are preparing a substantial bid to secure the Argentine’s signature, viewing him as a key piece in their midfield overhaul.
According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fernandez has expressed his willingness to leave Stamford Bridge for the Santiago Bernabeu, drawn by Alonso’s ambitious project.
“Enzo Fernandez has given the green light to a move,” Fichajes reported, noting that Alonso sees the 24-year-old as “essential to strengthen” Real Madrid’s midfield with creativity and dynamism.
The La Liga champions are reportedly crafting an offer around 150 million euros, potentially funded by the sales of players like Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, and Fran Garcia to balance their finances and squad harmony.
Chelsea, fresh off their FIFA Club World Cup triumph in July 2025, have already invested heavily this summer, bringing in talents such as Kendry Paez, Mamadou Sarr, Dario Essugo, Estevao, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens. Despite their spending, the Blues are determined to hold onto key players like Fernandez, who remains under contract until 2032.
Manager Enzo Maresca has repeatedly emphasized Fernandez’s importance, stating earlier this year, “I still trust Enzo. There is not any reason in the world I can lose confidence in him.” However, the allure of Real Madrid and a hefty transfer fee could test Chelsea’s resolve.
The Blues’ ambitions are sky-high following their Club World Cup success, with pundits tipping them as serious Premier League title contenders for the 2025-26 season.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara said, “Chelsea have to challenge for the Premier League title next season. They’ve spent over a billion pounds under Todd Boehly and have re-established themselves as a top-four side.”
He praised their Europa Conference League win and Club World Cup final appearance as significant achievements, adding, “Enzo Maresca will know that at a club like Chelsea, you have to produce results.”
Liverpool legend John Aldridge echoed this sentiment, telling Bet Brain, “Chelsea are title contenders for next season. They’ve bought well, and beating PSG in that manner lays down a marker. On their day, they can beat anyone.” However, he cautioned that sustaining such performances over a full season remains the challenge.
As Chelsea prepare for a competitive Premier League campaign, losing Fernandez could disrupt their momentum. Real Madrid’s interest, combined with Fernandez’s reported openness to the move, places the Blues at a crossroads. Will they cash in on their World Cup-winning star or dig in to keep their midfield maestro?
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Fernandez’s future and Chelsea’s trajectory.
