Friday 6 January
4/9 Manchester United | Draw 10/3 | Everton 6/1 (20:00)
Everton have been largely inconsistent domestically and ultimately its what’s costing them. Their result against City would have done wonders but it is so important to consolidate that with a positive result!
United can rotate their squad and still come away with a victory here, they are in a good place and will knowledge the importance of a cup run. Back the hosts.
Saturday 7 January
Tottenham 1/7 | Draw 7/1 | Portsmouth 14/1 (12:30)
I’d be lying if I said that 14/1 about Portsmouth wasn’t a little tempting…however, even though Spurs are going through a rocky patch now, they are the better side and are playing at home.
Portsmouth is without a win from their last four fixtures and languish in 12th position in League One. Surely, surely Spurs come through this. I’d rather us put our money on over 2.5 goals at 38/100.
Gillingham 13/1 | Draw 5/1 | Leicester 19/100 (12:30)
This is another mismatch, only the Premier League side are in a more consistent phase of their season. Leicester is the superior side, but I suspect Brendan Rodgers might feel the need to rotate his squad and when you compound that with playing away at Gillingham – well, now it’s a different story. I wouldn’t add this to anything serious, but Gillingham on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 7/2 is my value.
Crystal Palace 10/11 | Draw 23/10 | Southampton 29/10 (12:30)
I’m a little surprised to see the odds about a Palace win to be honest. I think they have been constant challengers and even when they don’t necessarily get the result they are after – you can’t fault their efforts. I’m inclined to say the home win is a banker here, you know they like this cup and I think even money is generous.
Bournemouth 27/20 | Draw 23/10 | Burnley 9/5 (15:00)
I’ve been impressed with Burnley and the work Vincent Kompany has done. Granted, we don’t get to watch too many of their games live in South Africa, but in keeping tabs on their performances and preparing for this coverage – you can’t help but doff your hat! Bournemouth’s issues have been well documented, so I’m not going to hash on…but back the visitors!
Brentford 6/4 | Draw 85/40 | West Ham 9/5 (17:30)
Intriguing game here, West Ham haven’t really hit their straps this season which doesn’t give me great confidence for a cup game. Brentford ran out 2-0 winners last time these clubs faced off so you wouldn’t blame them coming into this game with a bit of spice…
Nevertheless, I think West Ham can use this sort of environment to get back on their feet and give their fans something to enjoy. Back the Hammers.
Liverpool 27/100 | Draw 9/2 | Wolves 8/1 (20:00)
I don’t doubt that Liverpool should be the favourites going into this game, but I’m not sure I agree with the price that is available on their success. Wolves have sort of bobbed and weaved a little bit recently, but they aren’t short of earning valuable points in the league. I think both teams scoring at 10/11 offers the best value for the game – so get on!

Oxford United 13/1 | Draw 11/2 | Arsenal 2/11 (20:00)
Arsenal have been brilliant this season so far. I don’t think enough has been made about how they have been playing either. Mikel Arteta is flying the flag for young managers who can respect what the past has taught whilst also being brave enough to have his take on managerial duties wholly observed.
Arsenal (even with a rotated squad) will be far too strong for Oxford – back the Gunners to win with both teams to score at 17/10.
