Aston Villa extended their winning streak to five matches with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham, but head coach Unai Emery insists his side still have work to do.
The Villans fell behind early in North London to a Rodrigo Bentancur strike, but showed resilience as Morgan Rogers equalised with a long-range effort before Emiliano Buendia sealed the win late on, capping off a move sparked by Matty Cash.
Speaking to VillaTV, Emery praised both the team and the supporters: “I’m very proud of every Aston Villa supporter… and of the work we did today. Even when we were losing, we didn’t lose our gameplan. It was a very good win.”
The result marks Villa’s eighth game unbeaten and reflects a sharp turnaround after a poor start to the season, when they failed to score in their first three league matches.
Despite the form, Emery remains focused on improvement: “Still work to do. Some players are coming back from injury, and we can have more to choose from, which is better for performance.”
He credited impact substitutes like Buendia, Ollie Watkins, Ian Maatsen and Ross Barkley for contributing off the bench. “We’re building positive energy and qualities, and trying to compete in all areas – tactically, individually, set pieces.”
Emery emphasized that Villa must stay grounded: “We continue being humble, but we’re getting better. Today was one step forward in how we want to build the team.”
With Villa climbing into the Premier League’s top half and performing well in Europe, Emery’s message is clear: progress is being made, but the real work continues.
