Tottenham have secured a vital victory in their quest for UEFA Europa League knockout football, defeating TSG Hoffenheim 3-2 in an action-packed encounter.
This result positions Tottenham inside the top eight as they head into the final round of the league phase.
Ange Postecoglou, the Spurs coach, expressed his satisfaction with the performance, stating, “Just outstanding by the players, full credit to them. Winning away in Europe is always difficult irrespective of your situation, but with the situation we’re in, just a really unbelievable effort.”
He highlighted the leadership of experienced players like James Maddison, Son Heung-min, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Ben Davies.
The match started with Tottenham taking an early lead through Maddison, who capitalized on a long ball from Pedro Porro.
Despite a missed opportunity by Porro, Tottenham doubled their lead with a deflected shot from Son before halftime.
Hoffenheim, struggling for form, was denied a penalty claim but pulled one back in the second half through Anton Stach.
The game tightened up after Hoffenheim’s goal, but Son’s second of the night in the 77th minute seemed to seal the deal for Spurs.

Postecoglou noted the fatigue in his team during the second half, “In the first half I thought we played really well… Second half we looked a little bit fatigued and had to hold on a little bit and defend a lot more, which we did okay on the most part.”
He also praised the youthful energy, mentioning that the game ended with five teenagers on the pitch, including Brandon Austin’s European debut.
This victory is significant for Tottenham, who have only managed one win in their last ten Premier League matches. They now need just a point against IF Elfsborg to guarantee a spot in the last 16 of the UEL, while Hoffenheim, with only one win in seven UEL games, are teetering on the edge of European elimination, one point shy of the play-off spots and dependent on other results.
