Tomiyasu, 26, has struggled with recurring knee injuries and is currently undergoing rehabilitation following surgery in February. He played just six minutes of competitive football during the 2024/25 season and is expected to remain sidelined for up to five more months.

The versatile defender, who joined the Gunners from Serie A side Bologna in 2021, was under contract until the end of next season. However, both parties have reached a settlement allowing him to depart ahead of schedule.

Tomiyasu made 79 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions, primarily featuring at right-back but also filling in across the back line when required. While his early performances earned praise for consistency and defensive awareness, persistent injuries have disrupted his momentum in recent seasons.

Arsenal have already begun identifying potential reinforcements in defence, with Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera among the names being monitored. The club’s backline is also undergoing further change following the confirmed departure of Kieran Tierney to Celtic, and with uncertainty surrounding the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Tomiyasu leaves North London with the admiration of supporters for his professionalism and commitment, despite a frustrating end to his time at the club. A return to full fitness will be the priority as he begins the next chapter of his career.
