This matchup ensures that only one of the most recent champions will advance to the last 16, underscoring the critical nature of securing a top-eight position in the league phase.

Manchester City, after a nail-biting 3-1 victory over Club Brugge on the final day, just managed to secure a spot within the top 24. However, their less-than-ideal ranking has led them directly into a high-stakes encounter with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, the current title holders. “It’s a tough draw, but we are ready for the challenge,” Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, said.

Celtic, on the other hand, face a daunting task against Bayern Munich. The Scottish side had a challenging encounter with Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund earlier in the season, conceding seven goals. Now, they have less than two weeks to devise strategies to handle Bayern’s prolific striker, Harry Kane.

“We know it’s going to be a battle, but we’re prepared to fight,” Brendan Rodgers, Celtic’s manager, has said.

In another intriguing matchup, Paris Saint-Germain will take on Brest in what promises to be an all-French battle. Juventus are also set to meet PSV Eindhoven, adding more high-caliber football to the mix.

The draw specifics, designed by the new bracket format, meant that teams like City and Celtic knew they could only be matched against either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, based on the league phase standings.

Meanwhile, clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa have already secured their places in the last 16, having finished in the top eight. They will learn their next opponents in the upcoming draw on February 21.

The first legs of these play-off matches are scheduled for February 11 and 12, with the return fixtures set for February 18 and 19. This setup guarantees an electrifying start to the knockout stages.
