The remarks followed England’s lackluster friendly 3-1 defeat to Senegal, where Bellingham’s reaction to a disallowed goal drew scrutiny.

Asked if England would be better without the midfielder, Tuchel defended his talisman but stressed the need for discipline. “I struggle to see us improved without him,” he said. “He brings an edge we need to achieve great things. But it must target opponents, not intimidate teammates or referees.

“His fire is his strength, we don’t want to dim it.”

Tuchel acknowledged Bellingham’s intensity can unsettle those around him. “That fire can intimidate, even teammates,” he said. “You see explosions toward referees, anger in his game. If we help him channel it right, he has what we need. That edge is rare.”

He added a personal note: “My mum sometimes can’t see the well-educated guy I know. When he smiles, he wins everyone. But the rage can feel repulsive to her, watching on TV. Still, we’re thrilled to have him. He’s special, intelligent, and easy to manage.”

On Bellingham’s role, Tuchel highlighted his versatility. “I long saw him as a No. 6 or No. 8,” he said. “Then he shone at Real Madrid as a false nine, scoring and creating. He has a striker’s hunger to impact the scoreboard. Now, I see him as a No. 8 or No. 10.”

Recent X posts from England’s official account underscored Bellingham’s value, showcasing his training drive ahead of upcoming matches. A Real Madrid fan page on X praised his “unrivaled passion” but echoed Tuchel’s call for focus to elevate his game.

Tuchel’s words have split fans, with some lauding Bellingham’s passion and others questioning his composure. As England gear up for their next challenges, the spotlight will be on whether Bellingham can tame his fire to propel the Three Lions to success.
