“Jonas Urbig will start tomorrow. I don’t normally say anything about the starting XI, but I’ve learnt that goalkeepers are always a bit different,” Kompany said.

Bayern want the 22-year-old, who joined from 1. FC Koln in January, to gain some match practice before Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal second-round tie against Koln, where he will also play as Neuer serves a suspension.

The keeper has been serving as Neuer’s understudy this season but is now set for two consecutive starts.

“We discussed it clearly, which also has to do with the fact that Jonas will play at Koln. In this case, clarity is important,” Kompany added.

The Belgian coach also gave a positive update on the fitness of Josip Stanisic and Serge Gnabry, both of whom have been sidelined with injuries in recent weeks.

“If Josip Stanisic and Serge Gnabry train as normal, they’ll be in the squad,” he said.

Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga table after a strong start under Kompany, are aiming to maintain their momentum before turning attention to their midweek cup commitments.
