The 28-year-old picked up the issue during Everton’s away victory at Brighton and Hove Albion, sparking early fears that he might not play again this season.

After several months out, Calvert-Lewin returned to training in late April and is now focused on regaining match fitness. There is hope he could feature before the campaign ends, as Everton continue their battle for Premier League survival.

“Dom is very close to coming back into training,” Moyes said last weekend.

“He’s not training with the first team yet, but he’s doing plenty of work on the grass, so yes, he’s close now.”

The injury was a frustrating setback for Calvert-Lewin, who had started the first half of the season fit but struggled to find the net under Sean Dyche.

His form showed signs of revival following the appointment of David Moyes, ending a prolonged goal drought with a key strike against Tottenham Hotspur.

With his contract set to expire this summer, Calvert-Lewin is one of over a dozen players who could depart Goodison Park.

Talks over a potential extension are expected soon, though Newcastle United are among the clubs reportedly showing interest in securing his services.
