Everton manager David Moyes has demanded more from his strikers ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest.
The Toffees face Forest for the second time this month after a convincing 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, when Thierno Barry scored his first goal for the club.
Despite that result, Moyes has made it clear Everton’s overall goal threat remains a concern.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s match, Moyes focused heavily on Barry’s progress but stressed that improvement must now turn into goals.
“I think he’s played well in some games,” Moyes said. “Even at Burnley when he came on, the keeper makes a really good save from him. I think he’s improved.”
Moyes said Everton have tried to build Barry’s confidence by giving him regular chances. “We’ve tried to give him a run of games to give him that confidence and give him a chance to show what he can do,” he said.
However, the Everton manager was direct about what he expects next. “Ultimately, any of the centre-forwards we’ve got have got to score goals because you need that as a number nine,” Moyes said.
With Barry and Beto having scored one goal each this season, Moyes admitted the return has not been good enough. “He’s got one and Beto’s got one as well, so that’s not good enough and we need to find more goals,” he said.
Tuesday’s match against Forest now represents another test for Everton’s forwards. Moyes will be looking for a stronger attacking performance as Everton aim to back up their recent win over Forest and turn promise into points.
