Speaking during CBS Sports’ Champions League final coverage, Beckham voiced his disappointment with United’s current squad following a controversial post-season tour of Asia – criticizing their attitude, professionalism, and lack of respect for fans.
“I don’t like seeing what’s happening at the club,” Beckham said bluntly. “It’s true that it’s the pitch that matters, but I see a lot of things that are not acceptable to me as a fan and a lover of Manchester United.”
His remarks come after a string of incidents that marred the tour. United winger Amad Diallo was caught on video flipping his middle finger at fans outside the team’s Kuala Lumpur hotel, later claiming he reacted to insults aimed at his mother – and stating he didn’t regret it. Just days later, footage surfaced online of Alejandro Garnacho getting into a tense moment with a fan who was filming him.
The tour itself offered little respite on the footballing side. United – still reeling from a humiliating 15th-place finish in the Premier League – stumbled in Asia too, falling 1-0 to the ASEAN All-Stars before scraping together a 3-1 comeback win over Hong Kong.
Beckham, who was once the gold standard for professionalism in a United shirt, made it clear that the current generation is falling short of the club’s values.
“We understood what it meant to play for Manchester United. We understood what the badge meant,” he said. “Everywhere we travelled, whether in Europe or Asia, we respected the fans. We respected the fact that they came and paid money to see us, to get an autograph or to take pictures. You have to respect that.”
For Beckham, this isn’t about isolated moments – it’s about a cultural shift within the club that he sees as deeply troubling. His message: wearing the badge isn’t just about talent or trophies. It’s about character, humility, and showing up with respect-everywhere, every time.
