The 33-year-old joined the Magpies from Bournemouth in 2020 for a fee just over 19 million pounds. During his time on Tyneside, Wilson made 130 appearances across all competitions, scoring 49 goals – many of them crucial in Newcastle’s recent resurgence in the Premier League.

In an official farewell published on the club’s website, Wilson reflected fondly on his time in black and white.

“It’s time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years in the Toon,” he wrote. “Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club experience new heights.

“I am so proud to have worn the iconic number 9 shirt and to have added a little more history to it. Scoring at the Gallowgate End really is as special as they say.”

“All good things come to an end, but there’s no doubt Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my family’s hearts. Thank you for the memories.”

Wilson arrived during a period of transition for the club, and his experience, work rate, and eye for goal quickly made him a key figure under Steve Bruce, and later under Eddie Howe – who had previously managed the forward at Bournemouth.

His goals played a pivotal role in helping Newcastle maintain their Premier League status during challenging seasons, and he was also part of the squad that helped secure European qualification for the first time in a decade during the 2022/23 campaign.

Despite struggling with injuries throughout his time at the club, Wilson remained a consistent and dependable presence when fit – earning respect from fans and teammates alike for his professionalism and leadership on and off the pitch.

With Newcastle now looking to refresh their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season, Wilson’s departure marks the end of an era, but his contributions to the club’s progress will not be forgotten.

The England international leaves as one of the Magpies’ most prolific modern-era forwards, and with a legacy that includes both goals and grit during a transformative period for the club.
