Jones picked up an injury in Liverpool’s last outing and did not feature in training this week, despite being left out of England duty during the international break.
Slot admitted it was a rare setback in what has otherwise been a positive period for his side.
“Curtis Jones, I don’t know if you knew, but he got injured in the last game so he will not be available for the game against Burnley,” Slot said on Friday.
The absence of the midfielder is softened by the return of both Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong, who have been missing through injury. Bradley featured twice for Northern Ireland during the international break, while Frimpong returned to training earlier this week.
“I think they are fit,” Slot explained. “We train today for the first time with them. The rest of the players have come back without a problem, and that is not always the case at the start of the season when they play two games in a short time.”
Slot highlighted the importance of having a strong squad ahead of a demanding run, with Liverpool set to play seven matches in just 21 days across the league and Europe. The depth in full-back positions, an area stretched earlier in the campaign, will be particularly welcome.
Meanwhile, Slot has urged patience with new signing Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle on deadline day. The Swedish striker endured a disrupted summer and missed several months of full training.
“Don’t expect him to play every single game for 90 minutes,” Slot said. “He missed a proper pre-season and now we have to build him up gradually. It is going to be a challenge, but we have signed him for six years, not just the next two weeks.”
Liverpool, who have won their opening three league matches, are aiming to continue their strong start at Turf Moor as they look to defend their Premier League crown.
