Appointed amid scrutiny and handed an unforgiving opening schedule against Manchester City and Arsenal, Carrick responded in emphatic fashion.

“Everyone brings something different, which is kind of the ideal scenario, really. They have different personalities, experiences, coming from different angles, but work together,” said Carrick.
“That’s the ingredient, that balance you get. It’s great to have different opinions, challenge each other, and throw different ideas. I’m absolutely delighted. Couldn’t have asked for more of the staff.”
