Former English manager and player Alan Pardew has said that “Ruben’s a great fit for Manchester United.”

United started the 2025–2026 season poorly, losing games and struggling to win two matches in a row. This put a lot of pressure on the 40-year-old coach, who became manager in November 2024. Fans expected quick results after his success at Sporting CP, but things didn’t go as planned at first.

United’s minority co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, publicly showed his support for Amorim during a business podcast interview with The Sunday Times. Ratcliffe said that Amorim is “a good guy” and will be given three years to prove himself.

“Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years.

“You also look at Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. He had a miserable time over the first couple of years.

“We have to be patient. We have a long-term plan. It isn’t a light switch.

“You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week.”

Now, Amorim seems to have found his rhythm. The team is playing much better, showing more confidence and teamwork. At one point, United were close to the bottom of the league table, but now they have climbed to 8th place, which is a big improvement.

There’s still a long way to go in the season, but fans are starting to believe again that Amorim could be the right man to bring Manchester United back to the top.

Pardew added,” At the moment, where it falls down a little bit, maybe it is in the wing-back areas. They haven’t quite got that stabilized. But you know, going through the middle and at the top of the pitch, they’re fine. It’s just that kind of wing-back center-back one that is very, difficult to kind of perfect”.

Asked what is a good season is for them this time around? The 64-year-old replied,” On the coaching pitch, he has more time to put in and he’s absolutely that’s been essential for him.

“I think that’s why they’ll have a decent season. I think they could finish top eight. I don’t know where, but I think that’s a great opportunity for them to kind of push for Europe and hopefully get themselves back in there”
