Elliott, who fulfilled a childhood dream when he joined Liverpool at 16 in 2019, has been a lifelong supporter of the club. Though the attacking midfielder has rarely been a regular in the starting lineup, he has often stepped up with crucial contributions when it mattered most.
For Elliott and much of the current squad, Klopp was the only manager they knew during their time at Anfield, until his departure last summer after nine remarkable years.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, Elliott expressed disbelief that Liverpool have yet to commemorate Klopp with a statue. “I’m surprised there isn’t a statue of him yet,” he told former goalkeeper Ben Foster. “He built the team up, won so many things, and he has that legacy that I think will live forever and ever, for many, many, many years—until I’m even dead, it will still go on.”
Elliott highlighted Klopp’s transformative impact, adding, “He deserves it. What he’s done to this team, the way he built it up and made it like a family, the players, the fans, everyone in this building or even around the world, everyone feels together. I think that’s because of him, the way he is as a person, and the way he handles everything that comes his way. He’s a legend in my eyes, and he will be a legend of this club forever.”
The 21-year-old reflected on Klopp’s era, noting, “Looking back, he’s a legend, and his legacy will live on forever.” Elliott’s words echo the sentiments of many Reds fans who still revere the German manager.
He’s not alone in his call. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, widely regarded as the club’s greatest-ever player, has also backed the idea.
Speaking after Klopp announced his exit in 2024, Gerrard recalled the pain of 2014, when Liverpool narrowly missed out on the Premier League title and praised Klopp’s ability to heal those wounds. “Myself, my family, and a lot of Liverpool fans, there was a lot of doubt after that moment,” Gerrard said. “I just hope to God that there’s a statue in the making, and I hope it’s nearly ready. He deserves that stature at the club.”
Gerrard placed Klopp alongside managerial giants like Bill Shankly, Joe Fagan, and Rafa Benitez, saying, “You mention Shankly, Fagan, Benitez, all the ones that have delivered the big prizes at Liverpool. That comes with huge pressure. He’s right up there alongside the best, for sure.”
Klopp’s trophy haul backs up the praise. During his tenure, Liverpool lifted eight major honors, including their sixth European Cup in 2019 and their first Premier League title in the modern era in 2020. His departure last summer marked the end of an era, but his influence remains undeniable.
Liverpool already boasts statues of Shankly and Bob Paisley outside Anfield, while the Centenary Stand was renamed after Sir Kenny Dalglish in 2017. Adding Klopp to that list would cement his place in the club’s storied history.
