Football fans around the world have criticized the high cost of World Cup tickets.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has acknowledged the public’s concerns but maintains that the pricing is justified.
“What’s crucial is that the revenues generated from this go back into the game all over the world,” Infantino said. “Without FIFA, there would be no football in 150 countries.
“Football exists because of, and thanks to, the revenues we generate from the World Cup, which we reinvest globally.”
Group-stage tickets are priced at up to three times the cost of those for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while the cheapest ticket for the final in New Jersey is £3,119.
FIFA has introduced a limited number of more affordable tickets, priced at £45, for matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
These tickets will only be available to loyal fans of countries that have qualified for the tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, across 16 cities in North America. The tournament will feature 48 teams, an increase of 16 from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
