The 19th-placed Foxes pushed the title-chasing Gunners all the way in their Premier League encounter in front of their home fans before succumbing to a late brace from Mikel Merino.

With just nine minutes of the match remaining, Merino stole in for his first goal before sealing the win just three minutes from time.

It was Ndidi’s first game back after being sidelined for the past three months with a hamstring injury, and he played 85 minutes before being replaced by Patson Daka.

The result left Leicester two clear of safety, ahead of taking on 11th-placed Brentford on Friday night.

The Super Eagles midfielder told the club’s website: “We stayed on it until they scored the first goal. We knew we were still on it. We were just unlucky that we conceded that first one. We were together, stayed compact, and everyone was in it.

“We’re a bit gutted because we conceded two, and we should have stayed more in the game. That was the only thing. It was unlucky. Overall, we were pleased with the performance until they scored the goal.

“It’s just something that we need to take into the next one. Everyone is in it, and we know the position that we are in at the moment. We did well, to be honest, playing against a tough team. I think it’s just that we have to take the positives forward to the next game.”
