Tottenham have cleverly maneuvered in the transfer market by securing their loan deal for Bayern Munich's promising young attacker Mathys Tel.
This strategic acquisition was finalized in the dying moments of the transfer deadline.
The clubs initially discussed a permanent transfer for the 19-year-old French star, with a proposed fee of 60 million euros, but Tel had reservations. After Manchester United withdrew their interest, Tel reconsidered his position, leading to this temporary move to Spurs.
According to reports, if Tottenham decide to activate the option at season’s end, they will commit to a fee of 45 million pounds for Tel, who will then sign a six-year contract with the London club.
Tel will take on the No.11 shirt, bringing his versatility and potential to a Spurs team grappling with injuries.
Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson expressed his approval of the signing, noting, “It’s an amazing U-turn. Maybe he’s been sounding everything out and seeing what’s the best option for him. He’s only 19 and his game-time has been limited this season. But it’s a great fit, ideal for the football Ange Postecoglou wants to play.
“He’s a young, hungry, talented player and can operate across the frontline. It’s a good deal and a no-brainer for Spurs.”
Echoing Dawson’s sentiments, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher commented on the transfer, “It doesn’t look like Tel had too many options. To be fair to the lad, if Arsenal and Manchester United were there, you would probably pick those clubs ahead of Tottenham. I could understand that.
“The fact that Tottenham are getting him on loan now, I think that’s a good deal for both teams. He can get a look at Tottenham, Tottenham can get a look at him, a young player with potential.”
Carragher continued, “He hasn’t played too much football at Bayern Munich at all. If he settles in well at Tottenham, he will definitely get lots of chances. They create chances and score goals; they are one of the most exciting teams in the league.
“So I think this move works for the player and the club. He obviously fell out of favor at Bayern Munich, he didn’t get the minutes he would have liked. So this works for everybody.”
