Napoli made an official bid, while Chelsea also inquired about a potential move, but United ultimately decided to keep him.

Despite the financial benefits of a sale – where the fee would have been recorded as pure profit under the club’s financial records and aided compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – the club deemed Garnacho too valuable to let go.

His departure might have also sparked a significant backlash from fans, a concern echoed within the dressing room.

Players and staff feared that selling one of the club’s most exciting talents would cause unrest among supporters.

Garnacho’s importance in new manager Ruben Amorim’s vision for the club played a crucial role in United’s decision.

Amorim sees the Argentine as a key figure in his long-term plans for success.

“I want players like Kobbie and Garnacho. The focus is that we have to improve our academy. And you have to bring more [through],” said Amorim.

“That is something that all the clubs in England have to take advantage of. The players come from their academies.

“To play, to feel the shirt, but also to sell them. So our focus is to bring more [through].”

The 19-year-old previously faced a setback when he and Marcus Rashford were dropped for the Manchester derby in December.

However, he has since regained his place in the starting XI and responded with a series of impressive performances, further justifying United’s decision to keep him.
