City’s interest in Cambiaso stems from their need for full-back reinforcements. With Josko Gvardiol excelling at left-back but primarily seen as a centre-half, and Kyle Walker’s departure to AC Milan on a loan deal expected to turn permanent, City are on the hunt for a player with Cambiaso’s adaptability.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported that City had “found an agreement” with Juventus for the 24-year-old, setting the transfer fee at 60 million euros. Additionally, City and Cambiaso had agreed on a four-and-a-half-year contract, tying him to the club until the summer of 2029.
However, the deal fell through as City’s funds were redirected towards other signings, including defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, forward Omar Marmoush, and Nico Gonzalez as a temporary replacement for Rodri, totaling around 183 million pounds.
Despite the missed opportunity in January, the transfer remains very much alive. City plan to finalize the move after the Club World Cup concludes on July 13, with both City and Juventus drawn in the same group alongside Al Ain FC and Wydad AC.
Juventus, while reluctant to lose Cambiaso, recognize that the 50 million pounds from his sale could significantly bolster their squad in other areas.
City’s focus on Juventus players isn’t limited to Cambiaso. They previously approached Juventus for midfielder Douglas Luiz, but the deal didn’t progress as City were not ready to meet Juventus’ conditions. City also explored the possibility of signing Manuel Locatelli but opted for Nico Gonzalez instead, respecting Juventus’ desire to retain their midfielder.
Looking ahead, City are not cooling their interest in strengthening their squad. They are ready to compete with Real Madrid for AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez, indicating they might increase their efforts if the Cambiaso deal does not materialize.
Posts found on X corroborate these developments, suggesting City’s determination to bring Cambiaso to the Etihad this summer, with the transfer fee and contract terms previously agreed upon.
This strategic maneuvering showcases Manchester City’s ambition to maintain their competitive edge, ensuring they have the right players to continue their dominance in both domestic and international competitions.
