Chelsea co-owner Jonathan Goldstein has insisted that head coach Enzo Maresca will remain in charge until the end of the season, despite poor results.
Maresca, who signed a five-year contract when he joined in the summer, led Chelsea to a strong start, making them outside contenders for the Premier League title in December.
However, their form has since deteriorated, with the team winning only three of their last 11 games in all competitions.
With morale at the club declining, frustration among supporters has intensified. Many fans have turned on Maresca, while others have voiced their displeasure with the club’s current ownership.
Chants calling for former owner Roman Abramovich have been heard, and banners criticising Clearlake Capital – led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano – have been displayed at matches.
Maresca has claimed that there is no demand from the owners for Chelsea to secure a top-four finish this season.
This stance has only deepened fans’ frustrations, as many believe the club should maintain the high standards set under Abramovich’s leadership.
Despite the unrest, Goldstein has reaffirmed that Maresca has “100%” backing from the club’s hierarchy.
“He’s doing a great job,” Goldstein told Bloomberg TV.
“Chelsea started the season very well. The last six weeks have been, you know, finding their feet a little bit more.
“But Enzo has clearly done a great job in bringing the team together, bringing the talent through. And we’re very optimistic for the rest of the season in how that plays out.”
