Jack Grealish will miss Everton’s Premier League meeting with Coventry on Friday as David Moyes continues to manage a disciplinary issue involving the Manchester City loanee.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been absent for the Toffees’ past two fixtures, against Newcastle in the league and Carabao Cup, after an alleged breach of club discipline understood to involve an unauthorised absence from training.
Moyes offered little clarity on the situation when addressing the media on Thursday, although he indicated that the club expected to resume working with Grealish soon.
“No, Jack is not available,” the Everton manager said. “I wouldn’t give you the plan but we will be working with Jack again soon.”
Grealish’s absence was initially attributed by the club to a lack of fitness, while Moyes declined to elaborate on the circumstances earlier in the week. Asked whether the forthcoming international break might provide an opportunity to resolve the matter, the Scot remained cautious.
“We just need to wait and see how things go,” he said.
Grealish is attempting to revive his career on Merseyside after falling out of favour at City, who paid £100m to sign him from Aston Villa in 2021. He was an important contributor to their historic Treble-winning campaign in 2022-23 but has struggled to maintain his place in the side.
The midfielder scored twice in 22 appearances during his first loan spell at Everton last season, which was curtailed by injury. He returned for a second temporary stint this term but had managed only six appearances before his latest setback.
His City contract expires at the end of the season.
