England Striker Ivan Toney Recalled After Dominating Saudi Pro League and Proving He Belongs Among the Nation’s Best

England manager Thomas Tuchel says Ivan Toney is exactly where he belongs, and that’s wearing the Three Lions. “Ivan deserves to be with us. I’m convinced. He’s netted over 20 goals for Al Ahli this season, played a key role in their Asian Champions League triumph, and has been central to the team’s success with both goals and assists.”

Toney has not featured for England since leaving Brentford. However, the striker was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros, where he delivered an exceptional performance that helped lead the team to the finals.

Since joining Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, the 29-year-old striker has scored 22 goals in 29 appearances for Al Ahli in the 2024–25 Saudi Pro League season, placing him among the league’s top scorers alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Abderrazak Hamdallah.”

His eight-month ban from football did play a part in his decision to move, although it wasn’t the only reason.
The ban came after he was found guilty of breaking FA rules by placing bets on football matches, something players are not allowed to do. Even though Toney is a very talented striker, the ban made some Premier League clubs unsure about signing him.

Toney was in the final year of his contract with Brentford. The club didn’t want to lose him for free, so they decided to sell him while he still had high value.

Saudi club Al Ahli offered a big transfer fee and a much higher salary than he was getting in England. For Toney, it was a fresh start and a great financial opportunity after a tough period in his career.
Other players included in the squad are Ollie Watkins, who has recovered from injury and will join Harry Kane as one of the strikers. Dominic Solanke was left out of the squad because Tuchel wants to explore fresh options.

“I had a call with Dom Solanke, who deserved to be with us”.

“He won a major trophy with Tottenham and was an important player for them.”But he was already part of the camp before, and I have a clear picture of what he can bring to this group”

“Right now, it’s important to give new players a chance and get a feeling for them.” Said Thomas
