With five events left in the campaign, Verstappen is pushing for a remarkable turnaround to secure his fifth F1 world title.

However, the 28-year-old has acknowledged that Red Bull must deliver flawless performances through to the finale to pull off the championship upset.

“I know that we need to be perfect until the end to have a chance, so that’s what we just need to focus on,” Verstappen told the media.

“Like I said before, it’s super close, and just attention to detail will make the difference.

“Trying to get the best set-up on the car every weekend and then try not to make mistakes.

“So that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Verstappen commanded the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, claiming his fifth victory of the season.

He finished ahead of Lando Norris, who spent much of the race locked in a fierce duel for second with Charles Leclerc after the Ferrari driver surged ahead on the opening lap.

When questioned on how the race might have unfolded if Norris had held his position from the start, Verstappen replied: “I think then it would be a very close race.

“Every time I think that Lando was in clean air, we were very evenly matched. Maybe at times, he was a bit faster as well.

“It wouldn’t have been the gap that it was at the end.”

The next round of the Formula 1 season is the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, contested over 71 laps of the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City on Sunday, October 26.
