In an interview with Men’s Fitness, the 36-year-old Australian said he is finally enjoying life away from the intense pressures of motorsport.

Unlike many of his contemporaries who are still chasing final opportunities on the grid, Ricciardo appears content to step back for good.

“We had such parameters to stay within,” he said of his F1 career. “We had to watch the calories, we had to watch our weight. Now I’m just training for me.

“It feels really good to lift again. I feel healthy. I feel strong. And I think if I can do something each day, that’s kind of a little win.”

The former Grand Prix winner’s outlook marks a distinct departure from the mindset often seen in retired or semi-retired drivers. Where others might hold on for one last seat, Ricciardo is embracing a quieter life.

Ricciardo’s Formula 1 career is defined by his time at Red Bull Racing. After being promoted to the senior team in 2014, he immediately made his mark, securing his maiden victory in Canada and finishing the season with three wins.

Known for his audacious overtaking manoeuvres and infectious smile, Ricciardo consistently challenged the top drivers.

His most memorable triumphs include his remarkable victory at the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix, where he overcame a significant power loss to hold off Sebastian Vettel.

He also secured a memorable win for McLaren at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, marking the team’s first victory in nearly a decade.
