Sciver-Brunt replaces Heather Knight, who was sacked in March after the team delivered a poor and disappointing performance at the Ashes last year, where they suffered a humiliating 16-0 defeat against Australia.

The 32-year-old made her debut for England in 2013. She was part of the team that led her country to glory when they won the 2017 World Cup, and in 2022 and 2023, the talented cricketer was crowned ICC women’s cricketer of the year.

Working hard while climbing the ladder to success now ranked no 3 in the ICC batting in ODI Cricket, she has played 258 times for England across formats and this year 2025, she ended the Women’s Premier League in India with 523 runs making her the first player to accumulate more than 500 runs in a single season.

Speaking to the media, Sciver-Brunt expressed her joy over her new appointment, and she wants to empower her teammates to be the best versions of themselves, because if they have that confidence locked, they will produce positive results and be united as a team.

“I’m really proud to take on the role of captain of the England Women’s team, and it’s an honour to have been asked by Charlotte, someone I’ve always looked up to. Ever since I made my England debut back in 2013, all I have wanted to do is help the team in every way that I can. I will try my best to lead this team to success, whilst empowering them to be the best version of themselves.”

“We have a really talented group, and we have a group that’s united. It’s a team I believe in and a team that can have a lot of success together. It’s hugely exciting to be working with Charlotte, having had the pleasure of working with her in the last three years at the Mumbai Indians. Her love of cricket and passion for the England Women’s team is inspiring and I’m excited to see where this partnership leads us.”

The England women’s team is now preparing for the three T20 matches against West Indies, and on May 21, they will host India for five T20s and three ODIs.
