Please note today’s Vaal Classic Track meeting (21/2/23) has been moved to the Turffontein Inside Track.
Unfortunately, the Vaal received a downpour late yesterday afternoon and around 11mm of rain fell which has left surface water on the track, rendering it unraceable.
Turffontein only received 1.5mm of rainfall and the pen reading is currently 25.

BLACK EGRET finished third in his three starts in the Western Cape. He raced from just off the pace over 1000m last time and tried hard all the way to the line. He returns to the Highveld and back over the 1200m, he may be the one to side with.
Race 3: LUSHOZI SHOOP (1)
Jockey: SCRATCHED – Trainer: M de Kock
LUSHOZI SHOOP was an impressive winner on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of What A Winter would have come on from the run. She does meet stronger, but could be anything and should be up to the task at hand. She is carded to race on 18 February 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 4: RARATONGA ROSE (3)
Jockey: K de Melo – Trainer: H Houdalakis
RARATONGA ROSE stayed on at the finish over 2400m on this course last time. She showed good guts when winning her penultimate run over 2400m at Turffontein. She is unbeaten from three starts over this distance and with Keagan de Melo retaining the ride, she should keep that record intact.
Race 6: NAMAQUA BLOSSOM (2)
Jockey: R Danielson – Trainer: M Houdalakis
NAMAQUA BLOSSOM is one of the better bets on today’s card. She stayed on nicely at the finish over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Banha Bridge. The daughter of Flower Alley has no stamina issues. She takes a drop in class and from her good draw of four, she should notch up her third career victory.

Race 5: STUNNING KITTEN (8)
Jockey: P Mxoli – Trainer: P Matchett
STUNNING KITTEN was not disgraced when third against stronger company over this distance at Turffontein last time. She has won once, finished second twice and third twice from ten starts on this course. She takes a drop back in class this afternoon and if getting her own way in front, she may be hard to peg back.
