At a time when many doubted his potential to become one of the world’s best strikers, Kane was far from the physical ideal scouts often looked for. In fact, Arsenal released him at the age of eight, reportedly because he was considered chubby and lacked the physical attributes expected of a future star.

Tottenham saw something beyond the numbers. Under the academy’s development philosophy, technical ability, football intelligence, and mental determination were valued just as highly as physical qualities.

Kane’s relentless work ethic, exceptional finishing, and unwavering desire to improve set him apart from his peers. Rather than judging him by what he lacked physically, Tottenham invested in what he could become.

Kane made his first-team debut for Tottenham Hotspur on August 25, 2011, beginning a journey that would span 14 years at the club, from academy prospect to club legend.

During his time in North London, Kane made 435 appearances and scored 280 goals, becoming Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer but one thing remained missing in his Spurs era is a major team trophy.

In August 2023, Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich determined to win the trophies. Since joining the Die Bayern , he has won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup.

In the 2025–26 season, Kane scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country, including 61 goals in 51 matches for Bayern and 14 goals in the Champions League as Bayern reached the semifinals. He also won his third consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot and became the first Englishman to be named Germany’s Player of the Year.

The 33-year-old has continued to captain England, leading the Three Lions to the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 finals, where they finished as runners-up, before helping them finish third at the 2026 World Cup with six goals and one assist.

His goalscoring record, consistency, leadership, club success and international level have earned him the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

As he lifted the Ballon d’Or trophy during his acceptance speech, Harry Kane said, “I want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Tottenham, for sure.

“I was there from 11 years old. [With] all the guidance, the coaches, you allowed me to live my dream.

“So, for sure, without all those moments together, all the ups and downs along the way of that journey has led me to this moment here today. So I just want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur.

“To all my England teammates. We had a special year.It wasn’t the perfect year but we had a lot of good moments.

“We built a great bond together, a lot of togetherness, the way we played and it is truly an honour to play and captain you.

“This one is for all of us, for sure.”
