DONCASTER
Race 2 WILLIAM HILL FUTURITY (Group 1)
No3 BURNING UP (Nap)
Trainer: Karl Burke – Jockey: Clifford Lee
Aidan O’Brien is triple handed in his attempt to bolster his fine record in the best race of the day, with Beresford Stakes winner NOBLE EXHIBIT carded to start favourite to make it 13 successes in the contest for Ballydoyle. The hat-trick seeker looks the pick of the trio on paper but BURNING UP arrives with abundant stable confidence behind him and can take the spoils for the North. Both the Too Darn Hot colt’s triumphs have been gained on easy conditions, while he finished strongly behind Haffner in the Group 2 Royal Lodge and showed with that performance that he gets every inch of today’s mile.
Race 5 No1 GODWINSON (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: Cieren Fallon
A dark horse in every sense, GODWINSON can raise his game on a fourth outing for his trainer to whom he moved for a change of scenery. The six-year-old hasn’t experienced the testing ground he will encounter so far this year, and having been freshened up he’s more than capable of making this a first success on turf since he landed the Lincoln last year.
Race 6 No15 GALYX (Each Way)
Trainer: Jack Channon – Jockey: George Bass
GALYX comes here following the abandonment of Newbury which failed to survive the effects of Hurricane Austen. Getting the easy underfoot conditions he excels on, the five-year-old competes off a tempting mark on just a sixth outing of the year, having scored at Hamilton and finished in the money in a warmer race at Ayr.
Race 7 No8 QUEST FOR FUN (Each Way)
Trainer: Tim Easterby – Jockey: David Allan
While York tends to bring out the best in the consistent QUEST FOR FUN, it’s not difficult to see him playing a part in the finish of this handicap over the final 1400 metres of the straight course. He put in his latest earning run when fourth at Catterick but is more effective on a conventional course. Even though his six career visits to the Town Moor has yet to yield a win he will enjoy the cut in the ground.
CHELTENHAM
Race 1 No9 LISBANE PARK
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
It’s no surprise that there’s been money for LISBANE PARK ahead of his first run of the season in this novices’ limited handicap chase. Anything he achieved over hurdles is seen as a bonus as he’s considered one of the best prospects for chasing in the bang in form Tizzard stable, and has schooled well in practise at home.
Race 4 No2 UNCLE BERT (Nap)
Trainer: Nigel Twiston- Davies – Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies
Having shown with a win on his reappearance last season that he goes well fresh from a break, UNCLE BERT is of note test for his local stable in a competitive long distance handicap chase. Jumping issues clouded the remainder of that campaign although it’s worth noting that he kept good company, while plenty of work has been done with him in the Grange Farm schooling pen.
Race 7 No4 TYTHINGMAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Joe Tizzard – Jockey: Brendan Powell
Any support for TYTHINGMAN would encourage me to back the Pether’s Moon gelding in this hot bumper. His colours have been seen to winning effective this week, and the form of his Hereford bumper triumph has been franked.
SOUTHWELL
Race 6 No3 KEV (Nap)
Trainer: William Muir – Jockey: Daniel Muscutt
KEV seeks a third success from his last four starts in this bottom grade handicap and while the draw has been unkind to him he has time over the 1600 metres to work his way into a stalking position. The four-year-old has clearly benefitted from a change of scenery and should go close n not a fifth start for his handler.
Race 7 No3 ANTHROPOLOGIST (Each Way)
Trainer: Michael Herrington – Jockey: Dylan Hogan
ANTHROPOLOGIST went down as an unfortunate loser when his pilot had to sit and suffer locked in behind a wall of horses in the Doncaster Legends race. Back on the all-weather he claimed a minor cheque at Newcastle while his last four visits to this course has also seen him on the podium. He’s raised his game since joining Herrington and importantly breaks from a plum draw in this 1400 metres contest.
