The four-time world champion confirmed the new deal ahead of his home Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, extending his previous contract, which had been due to expire at the end of 2028.
Verstappen’s future had been the subject of intense speculation because of Red Bull’s struggles in the current season and performance-related clauses in his previous agreement.
However, the Dutchman has chosen to stay with the team as he looks to help Red Bull return to the front of the grid.
“I am really pleased with the contract extension,” Verstappen said. “We have the best people and I’m excited to keep working together with everyone to get back to the top again.
“This remains the ultimate goal that all of us have been working towards and will continue to pursue.”
Verstappen has enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Red Bull, winning four world championships and establishing himself as one of the most successful drivers in the team’s history.
He also described Red Bull as a “second family” and said continuing with the team was something he had always wanted.
“I came to the team hoping to be able to win races. What we went on to achieve together has been simply lovely and we have shared many incredible moments and won four World Championships,” he said.
“To continue this journey with the same team that I have been with my whole career is really special and something I have always wanted to do.”
The decision comes despite a major period of change at Red Bull, with several senior figures leaving the organisation in recent years, including former team principal Christian Horner, Helmut Marko, Adrian Newey and Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, who is set to join McLaren in 2028.
Verstappen, however, remains confident in the direction of the team under current team principal Laurent Mekies.
“Getting to work with Laurent now for over a year has also been great, I see a clear vision he has for the team,” Verstappen said.
“Everyone in Milton Keynes believes in what we are building and I am looking forward to the next chapter, fighting for more victories and competing for championships as we continue to shape the future of this team.”
Verstappen will now look to mark the announcement with a strong performance at Zandvoort, where he will race in front of his passionate home crowd for the final time.
“To make this announcement during the last grand prix at Zandvoort is a great moment for me as well,” he said. “Hopefully we can give the fans a special send-off for the final race.”
The Heineken Dutch Grand Prix takes place from 21 to 23 August 2026 at the Circuit Zandvoort.
