GOLF: LIV Golf cancels season finale in Michigan as Jon Rahm exit rumours swirl

The event was scheduled to take place from 27 to 30 August, but doubts had been growing after several LIV players, including Tyrrell Hatton, entered the British Masters on the same dates and tickets for the Michigan tournament were no longer being sold.

Those concerns were confirmed on Monday when LIV announced that this week’s event in Indianapolis will be the final tournament of the season as well as the league’s team championship.

LIV said the changes would allow it to focus on “building its next chapter” as it prepares for the future of the breakaway circuit.

The league has faced growing uncertainty since Saudi Arabia withdrew its financial backing in April, raising fresh questions over its long-term structure and funding.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil recently revealed new investors had been secured, but has yet to identify them.

“By concluding the season now, we can put our full resources behind what comes next and maintain the operational rigor this transition demands,” O’Neil said on Monday.

“We are reimagining LIV Golf as a fundamentally new league owned by the players and anchored in a sustainable business model, with an evolved fan experience built for the markets where the game is growing fastest across the globe and the support of world-class partners.

“Professional golf is more unified today than at any point since we launched, creating a genuine opportunity to grow the game together.

“Indianapolis will be a fitting finale for the league as fans have known it and the starting point for what we believe it can become.”

Meanwhile, rumours are swirling that one of its most high-profile players, Jon Rahm, is preparing to leave the circuit, with some reports suggesting his departure could hamper previously announced new investment, with potential backers said to be making their support dependent on LIV retaining its biggest stars.
