The American opened the FedEx Cup playoffs in emphatic fashion, recovering from an early bogey with five birdies in a four-under-par 66 to finish on 17 under and a winning total of 263 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

“I’ve had some close calls this year,” said Scheffler, whose last victory came at the American Express at La Quinta back in January.

“I feel like I kept saying at the end of each tournament ‘Man, I feel like I’m playing pretty good. It’s just the little things aren’t going my way.'”

Scheffler began the final round with a two-shot lead, but suffered an early setback when his bunker shot at the third struck a sprinkler head and bounced into the water, resulting in a bogey.

He quickly recovered, rolling in a 10-foot birdie putt at the fifth before adding further birdies from 20 feet at the sixth and 11th holes. Another 22-foot putt at the 13th took him to 17 under, while a six-foot birdie at the 16th effectively sealed the victory.

South Korea’s Kim Si-woo finished runner-up on nine under after carding a two-under-par 68.

Sam Burns, who began the day tied for second and played alongside Scheffler in the final group, double-bogeyed the third and dropped another shot at the fifth before carding a three-over 73. Burns finished tied for third with Sweden’s Alex Noren on eight under.

Another South Korean, Im Sung-jae, who also started the day tied for second, shot a four-over 74 to share fifth. The result was enough for Im to move into the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings and secure his place in next week’s BMW Championship.

Scheffler’s victory was the 21st of his PGA Tour career and capped a week in which he produced a superb 61 in Friday’s second round.

The more than six-month wait for a victory was Scheffler’s longest since 2023, when he won the Players Championship in March before returning to the winner’s circle at the Hero World Challenge in December.

“Statistics are one thing, but being able to win golf tournaments is another,” said Scheffler, who won 15 times in 2024 and 2025.

“This is a lot better feeling than having statistically another good week.”
