PONTEFRACT

Race 4 No6 ZARINCA (Nap)
Trainer: Ed Bethell – Jockey: Callum Rodriguez

ZARINCA improved for a cutback in trip when opening her account at Southwell in April. The success earned her a mark, which though not obviously lenient is one that, granted normal progression, she can overcome.

SOUTHWELL

Race 1 No4 PEP TALKING
Trainer: Billy Aprahamian- Jockey: Gavin Sheehan

Front running PEP TALKING might represent some value getting weight from odds-on VOCITO whose recent wide margin triumph happened over hurdles. In contrast, the selection put in another sound effort when second in a chase over this course and distance having recorded a seventh career success on his previous start at Chepstow. He’s gone up 7lb, but could prove hard to catch if getting not an uncontested lead.

Race 6 No1 SQUEEZEBOX (Nap)
Trainer: Tom Lacey – Jockey: Stan Sheppard

SQUEEZEBOX brings a good record with two hurdling successs from just three Rules outings n his CV. He returns from an eight month absence, but his trainer will have him ready to do himself justice.

NEWCASTLE

Race 5 No5 QUIET RESOLVE (Nap)
Trainer: Alan Brown – Jockey: Sean Kirrane

While this fixture is not tempting me to open my wallet I shall have a small investment on QUIET RESOLVE, who when winning and then finishing second at Hamilton demonstrated that he’s in the zone, which the majority of hip rivals are certainly not. It’s really a question of whether the Showcasing gelding can transfer that form to the Tapeta surface.

Race 6 No7 TRAIS FLUORS (Each Way)
Trainer: Linda Perratt – Jockey: Lauren Young

Backing TRAIS FLUORS usually requires holding your breath as he’s best ridden for luck and from off the pace. The now 12-year-old could have done with a stronger pace when just out of the money at Ayr last time and can step up on that should they go quick.

WOLVERHAMPTON

Race 3 No4 FILEY BEACH (Nap)
Trainer: Ruth Carr – Jockey: James Sullivan

This represents a drop in grade for FILEY BEACH who has delivered in style on his last two races on turf. All but one of his nine opponents are out of form, and if taking to the surface he should complete a hat-trick.

Race 7 No3 POWER OF CHORA (Each Way)
Trainer: Joey Ramsden – Jockey: Andrea Pinna

If there’s a potential improver in the field for this bottom grade handicap it’s probably POWER OF CHORA. The Grecia Magna filly wasn’t beaten that far in a big field at Nottingham and now enjoys a step up in trip that should suit her. She has a capable apprentice on her back, who is good value for his 7lb claim.

Race 8 No10 ARLECCHINO’S REX (Nap)
Trainer: Mark Usher – Jockey: Rab Havlin

The prospect of ARLECCHINO’S REX returning to winning ways has been exacerbated by a very good draw and the fact that he’s up against a bunch of horses that can’t be relied upon to show up. In contrast, the Nap doesn’t know how to miss out on the frame, and under a senior jockey who rides this track well he looks every inch the one to beat.
