Chelsea has officially confirmed the largest pre-tax loss in their history in the Premier League.

Chelsea says their record loss was partly due to higher operating costs in the 2024/25 season compared to the previous year.

The club’s revenue increased to £490.9 million, making it the second-highest in their history. They expect this number to rise even more in 2025/26, possibly reaching £700 million.

This expected growth is mainly due to strong player sales in the transfer market, which brought in £314.4 million last summer. Some of the key deals included Noni Madueke (£52m to Arsenal), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (£29m to Everton), and Djordje Petrovic (£25m to Bournemouth).

Sky Sports Senior Reporter Kaveh Solhekol breaks down the numbers, “Obviously, Chelsea spent a lot of money on players. They also, I think, historically are number one when it comes to raising revenue from selling players as well.

“We also heard this afternoon uh some figures from football Association. How much clubs spend on agents. Chelsa from February 2025 to February 2026 is £65.1 million.

“It’s an extraordinary figure, and the other extraordinary figure is if you add up all the money that Premier League Clubs are spending on agents in a 12-month period, it’s almost half a billion pounds.

Chelsea’s next financial results, including their tax figures, are expected to be published in early 2027, as Premier League clubs typically release their accounts several months after the end of the financial year, and the club is confident they will perform better.
