Jannik Sinner has made history by becoming only the second man, after Roger Federer in 2017, to complete the “Sunshine Double,” winning both the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open in the same season, as he was crowned Miami Open champion.
Sinner thrashed Jiri Lehecka in straight sets, 6–4, 6–4. In the first set, Sinner played steadily and broke Lehecka’s serve once, which helped him win 6–4.
The second set was very similar, as Sinner stayed in control, got another important break, and finished the match with the same score.
Addressing the media and the tennis crowd in court, Sinner said,” We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I’m really, really happy, and I’m also happy to go back home now.
“Making the Sunshine Double here for the first time, it’s incredible. It’s something I would have never thought, because it’s difficult to achieve, and we made it somehow, so I’m very happy.”
Jannik Sinner has won several ATP titles since turning professional, which helped him reach world No. 1 earlier in his career. He is currently ranked No. 2 and is in a close battle with Carlos Alcaraz for the top spot, with the No. 1 ranking sometimes switching between them as both players.
As the season progresses, Sinner is preparing for the clay-court swing, which begins on March 31 and runs until June 7. Despite his success, in 2024 tested positive twice for clostebol in March. This resulted in him being banned for three months.
His fitness coach, Umberto Ferrara, purchased the medication over the counter, and his physiotherapist then used the spray containing Clostebol to treat his small wound while giving him a massage.
The suspension came after an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency, which confirmed the results were caused by accidental contamination from his physiotherapist.
Sinner spoke out about how the ban affected him; he felt “Fragile”.
“I was very fragile after what happened. Even though I didn’t feel fully free, in the end, I chose the lesser evil, even though it was unfair.
“But there could have been a greater injustice. I know I am innocent.
