The attacking midfielder was back in action on Thursday for the first time since suffering a recent setback, having only just recovered from the serious fibula fracture and ligament damage he sustained last year. That earlier injury had already kept him sidelined for a lengthy period, and his latest issue briefly halted his progress again.

However, there were encouraging signs at Bayern’s training base as Musiala completed an individual session lasting just under 30 minutes. The 23-year-old began with light running before moving into coordination drills, with some exercises already involving the ball. It marked an important phase in his rehabilitation as he works towards full match fitness.

Musiala’s most recent setback came after Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 win over Atalanta earlier this month, when he experienced renewed pain in his left ankle. The issue has been described as a tendon-related reaction linked to the previous fracture, prompting careful management from Bayern’s medical staff.

The Germany international was subsequently left out of the national squad during the March international break, allowing him to focus entirely on his recovery programme in Munich. Bayern have remained cautious with his workload, keen to avoid any further complications given his importance to the team.

While no exact return date has been confirmed, Musiala is targeting a comeback in time for Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid on 7 April. His availability for that fixture would provide a major lift for the German champions as they prepare for one of their biggest matches of the campaign
