The incident happened in August 2020 on the Greek island of Mykonos. Maguire was on holiday with friends and family when a fight broke out outside a bar.

Police arrived at the scene, and according to the authorities, Maguire became involved in a confrontation with officers during the arrest.

A court in Syros sentenced him to 21 months in prison and imposed a fine. After further legal proceedings, the punishment was reduced to a 15-month suspended sentence, and the fine was removed.

A suspended sentence means he will not go to prison unless he commits another offence during the suspension period.

The 33-year-old player says he is still not guilty, that’s why he has refused several times to settle the case by paying money. Maguire ‘s lawyers will appeal to the Greek Supreme Court to clear his name.

Addressing the media outside the court, Prosecution Lawyer Ioannis Paradissis said,” Today, the court upheld the conviction and justice was done.

“Policemen sustained injuries that night. They have not forgotten what happened to them, and they are still awaiting an apology. Not once has Maguire shown any remorse.”
